Day 22 Rest Day Sault-St Giron

A tough ride up Ventoux  with this scenery

Dear Mum I am thinking of you today it would have been your 99th birthday. I have learnt a great deal from you. As the years pass your example and the way you led your life takes on an even greater influence, by your hiddeness and compassion. You were always 'other centered' not 'self centered' self emptying' not 'self fulfilling,' you chose the caring road not the selfish road. I know how to love because you first loved me. Thanks mum, happy birthday.

Another narrow lane in Sault
Had a last walk around Sault, gathered a few supplies and headed off about 9.00am, as there is a big day on the road. We wind our way around the base of Mt Ventoux on our way towards Orange, going through Carpentras, Montpellier and stopped at Avignon. A magnificent walled castle on a river, will have to return to this spot. Pull into the worlds famous Scottish restaurant......McDonalds, connect into the WiFi, buy a McFlurry, Chips and drink. Most of the McDonalds are self order by touch screen in multiple languages, then proceed to the counter to collect. Even Maccas are doing away with the counter service.

Merchandise Float
Some of the goodies rec'd by caravan

Continue on, bypass Nimes, Toulouse, before parking in St Giron. There is a definite change in architecture and street layout. Look for a more suitable spot to park in and around the town Eventually settle on a lane beside the Salat River outside St Lizier which is is a continuation of St Giron. When we wake in the morning we are parked beside the ruins of a 'Pile Romanique.'

NB Tolls 45Euro, McDonalds 10.75 Euro
